Leopard Tortoises

Natural Habitat

Arid Savannah and grassland regions of East and South Africa.


They are fed on a wide range of 'weeds' such as nettles and thistles along with flowers and other seasonal plant materials.


Threat Level: Least Concern

While rare in heavily populated areas, the population of leopard tortoises is stable, some areas decline is due to the unsustainable pet trade.

Here at the Zoo

Our tortoises have two enclosures, they have a summer outdoor area at the front ot the zoo but in winter you will find them inside the walk of Life on cold days.
