This squirrel is predominantly a seed eater with some fruit and nuts. They are known to forage on flowering ginger plants, where they feed on the nectar. Like many rodents they have food stores which they return to when food is scarce.
Threat Level: Least Concern
Habitats vary from humid rain forests to temperate forest at higher altitudes of up to 2000m. They are commonly seen in people's gardens in rural areas, the population is considered to be stable with very few or significant threats from humans.
