Raccoon Dog

Natural Habitat

Native to eastern Asia but has been introduced to Europe. Found in mainly forest and grassland habitats.


Omnivorous - eating fruit and shoots along with meat items including small mammals and birds 


Threat Level: Least Concern

Population stable but are still used in fur farming in parts of the world 

Here at the Zoo

If you cannot see the raccoon dogs they will be often sleeping off their food in the back of their enclosure. During the winter period they go into torpor a state of hibernation to reduce energy use.
