Natural Habitat

Marine habitats includes oceans and seas that both contain salt. This equates to 70% of the earth’s surface. Around 3/5th of the fish species that are known to man are found in marine habitats.

Marine fish often require a varied diet including animal based material and vegetable based items to mimic their wild diets.

Over 90% of what we import to the UK is via ship, putting a huge strain on the oceans. Litter and plastic are also contributing to the degradation of marine habitats

Here at the Zoo

We have four large exhibit marine tanks here at the zoo in the Aquatics resource centre that opening in 2014. These contain a wide range of marine invertebrates, corals and fish including clown fish, urchins and shrimp.
