Fresh Water

Natural Habitat

Freshwater habitats includes standing and flowing waters such as springs, ponds, lakes and rivers. These hold a wide variety of life including fish and amphibians.

Diet

Freshwater fish often require a varied diet including animal based material and vegetable based items to mimic their wild diets.

Conservation

Rivers have been used by industry to move goods around for generations. Lots of changes have been made to their shape and  flow that has affected the wildlife it holds. Conservation organisations are now trying to reinstate meanders and create differing flows for migrating fish.

Here at the Zoo

We have a wide variety of freshwater fish here at the Aquatics Resource Centre. Species include cichlids, cave fish, angel fish and glass fish
